Consider this delightful restaurant an obligatory stop on your itinerary in Marostica, not only for its remarkable cuisine, but for its privileged position within Marostica’s Castello Superiore (Upper Castle). Perched at the top of the Pausolino Hill, some of the restaurant’s most desirable tables are on the terrace overlooking the Vicentina landscape below. According to one of the restaurant’s accomplished antipasto and pastry chefs, Daniele Tonellotto, the cuisine is tradizionale ma creativo. The kitchen utilizes the season’s freshest ingredients and, while there may be a few recognizable dishes on the menu, most are creations of their innovative chefs. One of their premier dishes on the autumn menu is risotto con la zucca e tartufo (rice prepared with butternut squash and truffles). Their signature dessert, bacino di Lionara, pays homage to the beautiful woman in whose honor the first partita ai scacchi was played in the 15th century. Don’t miss this fantastic tiramisu-like dessert prepared with frutti di bosco (berries) in lieu of cocoa.
